'Now no political party can say no to the elections.' - Communications Minister Kharel
What you should know
Minister for Communications and Information Technology Jagadish Kharel has said that the country is now moving towards elections, noting that the major parties have agreed to go ahead with the elections.
Speaking at an interaction and discussion program on 'Developed concepts in this field to make mass media professional' organized by the ministry in Pokhara on Sunday, he said that the country has moved towards the destination of development and prosperity through the elections.
'We held intensive talks with political parties and Gen-G representatives. In the discussion held with the leadership of political parties at the Prime Minister's residence yesterday, it was agreed to go to the elections,' he said, 'Now no political party can say that it will not go to the elections.' He said that it is a matter of happiness that the parties are preparing closed lists for proportional representation and that political parties are coming together.
He said that he is optimistic that the government formed after the upcoming elections on the basis of the Gen-G movement will move the country forward in the direction of making the country well-governed, corruption-free and prosperous Nepal. He said, 'I see a beautiful future.'
In another context, he said that the media is also in trouble because the country's economy is not running. 'Every year we bring a deficit budget, capital expenditure cannot be made. "No one is ready to do industry, trade, or business, money is piling up in the bank," he said, "There is no investment environment in the country. Industry and trade have not been able to flourish. Due to this situation, the media is also collapsing." He was of the opinion that the process of merger should be followed as there are more media outlets in Nepal than required. Admitting that the public welfare advertisements given by the government have not gone where they should, he mentioned that the ministry is taking initiatives to reach active journalists.
