Prime Minister Sushila Karki has begun discussions with top leaders of the three major parties today in a bid to create the necessary environment for the elections.

Prime Minister Karki has started dialogue with Congress President Sher Bahadur Deuba, UML Chairman KP Oli and Nepali Communist Party (NCP) Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal. The UML, which has made the re-establishment of the House of Representatives its main agenda because the government has not created an environment for elections, has appeared positive about the elections after the latest dialogue.

President Ram Chandra Poudel facilitated the resolution of the impasse arising from the recent acrimony between Prime Minister Karki and UML Chairman Oli on December 21. President Poudel had brought Deuba, Oli and Dahal together with the Prime Minister in his presence to break the deadlock. After that, Prime Minister Karki has initiated dialogue with the three leaders for the first time in Baluwatar.

Leaders of the three major parties have been demanding that the security situation be strengthened and that the restrictions imposed on UML Chairman KP Oli and Congress leader Ramesh Lekhak be lifted to create an environment for elections. The government has been flexible towards that demand. According to Baluwatar sources, this will also be discussed in the ongoing discussions.
