The agreement states, ''We have agreed to unify the RPP and the RPP Nepal, the unity declaration meeting will be held on Poush 16, 2082 at the National Assembly.'' RPP spokesperson Mohan Shrestha informed that the two leaders signed the agreement at the RPP party office, Dhumbarahi.
Informing about the party unification, Chairman Lingden urged all nationalist forces to participate in the polarization.
Earlier, Thapa left the party after Lingden won the RPP presidency. He was defeated by Deepak Bahadur Singh of the RPP as a candidate from Hetauda in the 2079 election on the UML's election symbol.
Thapa left the RPP after losing in the general convention.
The RPP has a long history of division and unity in Nepali politics. Kamal Thapa announced his departure from the RPP after losing in the last general convention in 2078. He had left the RPP with a heavy heart after reaching Hetauda on 25 Mangsir 2078.
Thapa had been dissatisfied after being defeated for the presidency in the party general convention. He revived the old party RPP, Nepal. Lingden had secured 1,844 votes in the general convention. Thapa had secured 1,617 votes.
Thapa had accused former King Gyanendra Shah of interfering in the election process of the general convention and was defeated for the presidency.
Before that, in 2076 BS, RPP Thapa, Pashupati Shumsher Jabra and Prakash Chandra Lohani had announced unity. In 075 Kartik, the unification process of the two RPPs began again. Before that, the RPP, which had been unified in 2073 Mangsir, was divided in Shrawan 2074.
In 2074, after a disagreement over entering the government, a dispute arose between RPP Chairman Thapa and senior leader Rana, and Rana split the party and formed the RPP (Democratic).
