A meeting of the Congress Central Working Committee is being held today to discuss the agenda of the Congress General Convention and candidate selection.
Even though the Congress has brought a schedule for all seven levels of conventions to hold the central general convention on the upcoming Poush 26-29, the delay in the distribution of active membership is expected to affect the general convention schedule.
The establishment side has been holding the view that the schedule decided in this way should be postponed after the election as it is necessary to prepare for the election on 21 Falgun. However, General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma are adamant that the general convention should be held before the election. They have been arguing that going to the election without changing the party's policy and leadership will result in a huge loss.
However, leaders of the establishment side have demanded that the proportional list be submitted on Poush 13 and 14 and that a parliamentary board be formed to start the process of selecting candidates for it.
Congress spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat said that the party's general convention should be postponed to Baisakh in case of an election. He argues that if there is no election, it can be held in Falgun. He said that this will be discussed in the meeting of the Central Work Performance Committee. The meeting is being held at 1 pm at the party central office in Sanepa.
