The Congress has called a meeting of the Central Working Committee to discuss the schedule for the party's 15th General Convention and the formation of a parliamentary committee to select candidates.
The 15th Central General Convention of the Nepali Congress is scheduled to be held in Kathmandu from December 26 to 29. However, the ward convention is scheduled to begin from December 16.
However, due to the delay in the distribution and renewal of active membership, the establishment party has been demanding that the general convention be postponed. General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma, on the other hand, have been taking the stand that the general convention should be held before the elections.
Speaking at a program organized in his own constituency Kathmandu-4 on Monday, General Secretary Thapa said that a special general convention would be attracted if the regular general convention could not be held on the specified date. The deadline for calling a special general convention, which was signed by 54 percent of the general convention representatives, is December 28.
On the other hand, pressure has increased within the Nepali Congress for the proportional representation of the House of Representatives and for the selection of candidates for the National Assembly. Lists of recommendations for direct, proportional and National Assembly candidates from the lower bodies of the Nepali Congress have already reached the center from most districts.
There is a provision to form a central parliamentary board under the chairmanship of the president to select candidates. According to the Congress statute, there is a provision to distribute tickets to the parliamentary committee. The office bearers are automatically represented in the committee, while there is a provision to nominate 11 others by the president.
