Nepali Communist Party (NCP) leader Barshaman Pun has suggested that the government take into account the constitutional provision that another parliament should be formed within six months of the dissolution of the House of Representatives.

Pun made it clear that the party will not support the government if the government does not hold elections by next Falgun.

In a meeting of representatives of political parties, the Election Commission, security agencies and civil society convened by Prime Minister Sushila Karki on Monday, Pun suggested that the government conduct the elections within the scope of the constitution. 'If elections are not held within six months of the dissolution of the House of Representatives, we will not support the government. In such a situation, either the streets will decide or the parliament will be restored,' he said.

Pun also said that Prime Minister Karki and the ministers have shown commitment to the elections. He said that the government should further encourage political parties to participate in the elections. 'UML and Congress seem ready for the election process. They are participating in the party registration, they should be further encouraged. It is a good thing that Gen-G also participates in the election process,' he said.

Pun said that recently, Congress and UML have also been ready to participate in the elections. He said that it would be good to extend the time for submitting the proportional closed list. His suggestion was to make arrangements to submit the closed list for 10 days from the 13th. He said that the fact that the Congress is in the general convention and the UML has only recently concluded its general convention has not been able to prepare the proportional list should be taken into account.

Pun has also urged the government not to bring an ordinance and not to amend the law after the election has been announced. Pun has also reminded the Prime Minister that the Supreme Court has stopped the expansion of the Council of Ministers in the past when the election has been announced. 'You cannot add ministers to the government after the election has been announced. Questions arise when the rules of the game are changed after the game has started,' he said.

Pun drew the government's attention to how easy it is for Nepalis living abroad to participate in the elections. He also said that Nepalis living abroad can now be made to participate in the elections in a representative manner.

However, Pun said that if an attempt is made to debate the voting system for Nepalis living abroad to postpone the elections, it would not be acceptable. Similarly, he said that inter-district voting can be arranged in proportional representation.
