Nepali Congress central member Dr. Shekhar Koirala has said that the party has started preparations to participate in the upcoming parliamentary elections to be held on Falgun 21.
In a dialogue titled ‘Nepali Congress and Nepal’s Journey: Yesterday, Today, Tomorrow – Challenges, Opportunities and Prospects’, leader Koirala informed that the central committee has already decided to actively participate in the upcoming elections.
He suggested that the government should strengthen peace and security to create an environment for fear-free elections, arrest 5,000 fugitive prisoners involved in heinous crimes, recover looted weapons and boost the morale of the police.
Stating that there is no other option in the current situation but elections, Koirala said that the government should fulfill its responsibility to hold elections on time. He said that if all political parties provide 40 percent representation of the youth at the local level, 30 percent at the provincial level and 20 percent at the federal level, good governance, corruption control, transparency and accountability can be maintained in the country.
He expressed the view that teachers should be kept away from politics to improve community school education. He also accused the previous government of discriminating in budget distribution, which has left Biratnagar Metropolitan City behind other areas.
