The closed session of the UML general convention has passed an amended statute to increase the number of office bearers and the central committee.

Chairman KP Sharma Oli had presented the proposal for amending the statute decided by the central committee in the closed session. The general convention representatives had approved the statute. In the closed session, Chairman Oli had said that it was necessary to amend the statute and give responsibility to many leaders. Senior Vice President Ishwor Pokharel opposed this and expressed the view that there was no document to amend the statute quickly. He had said that it was wrong to suspend the membership of former President Bidya Bhandari. Similarly, he had presented a concept paper covering the democracy of party life, the working style of leaders, and the treatment of different opinions. UML has stated that the election process will begin from Monday morning.
