UML Politburo member Dal Bahadur Rana has announced his retirement from active politics. Rana announced his retirement from active politics after 45 years on social media on Friday, the day before the 11th general convention, which begins in Kathmandu on Saturday.
After the 10th General Conference, Rana was a member of the Politburo. Rana was a member of the Central Committee and co-in-charge of the Lumbini Province Committee from the 8th National General Conference of UML held in Butwal, and was a member of the Central Committee and Politburo from the 9th National General Conference. After the 10th National General Conference, he was a member of the Politburo and in-charge of the Land Management Department. Rana is a native of Rampur Municipality-1 and currently lives in Budhanilkantha Municipality-10, Kapan Bivekchowk, Kathmandu.
Rana was a supporter of the Communist Party since 2035/36 BS. In the early stages of politics, he led the Palpa district of the professional organization, the then Paramedical Association (Healthcare Workers Association). He became the Palpa district secretary of the then Langhali Family (Nepal Magar Association), an ethnic community organization, and became the head of the Gulmi district committee for two years during his underground period. He was also the Palpa district committee secretary twice, a member and co-in-charge of the then Lumbini Zonal Coordination Committee. Rana had worked for some time in Palpa, Gulmi, as well as Nawalparasi, Pyuthan, and Rupandehi districts in the course of fulfilling his party work responsibilities.
He served as the founding central general secretary of the Nepal Democratic Indigenous Peoples Federation formed in 2063 BS and the founding central president of the Nepal Democratic Magar Association. He was a member of the House of Representatives twice and a member of the Constituent Assembly once. He also served as the Minister of Land Reforms and Management for a short period.
Rana has stated that he has stepped down from the party responsibilities citing family problems. Even though he has taken a leave from active political life, he has expressed his commitment to continue to be active in the interests of the country, people, and the party as a party member based on time and experience.
