Since its establishment, three leaders, Shankar Pokharel, Prithvisubba Gurung and Pradeep Gyawali, are aspiring for the post of general secretary. Pokharel is currently the general secretary, while Gurung and Gyawali are the deputy general secretaries. Since all three leaders are close to him, it has been difficult for Chairman KP Sharma Oli to manage.

The UML establishment and other parties are busy with their homework to form their respective panels for the general convention. With more than three dozen office bearers aspiring for office bearers on the establishment side, it has become difficult to form a panel. Since few leaders have come forward on the other side, it has not been decided whether to form a panel for the central committee or just office bearers. Both parties are preparing to make the panel public on 28th Mangs, the day of candidate nomination.
The UML statute provides for 15 office bearers, according to which there will be 1 chairman, 3 vice-chairmen, 1 general secretary, 3 deputy general secretaries and 7 secretaries.
According to leaders close to Oli, 40 leaders are aspiring for the office bearers. Bishnu Poudel, Ram Bahadur Thapa, Guru Baral are likely to continue as vice-chairmen in the establishment. Standing Committee member Raghu Pant has also submitted his claim for the vice-chairmanship. Deputy General Secretary Bishnu Rimal, close to Oli, is also being discussed for the vice-chairmanship.

Pokharel is currently the general secretary, while Gurung and Gyawali are the deputy general secretaries. Since all three leaders are close to him, it has been difficult for Chairman KP Sharma Oli to manage.
General Secretary Pokharel claimed that the cadres want the continuity of the old leadership. 'We are in favor of building a team to strengthen the chairman. Because the challenges of managing the transition period will be faced under his leadership,' he said in a conversation with Kantipur, 'It is natural for other leaders to have expectations. In the end, there is a common view that everyone should accept whatever the party president says. I don't think there will be any problem with that.'
Deputy General Secretary Gurung said that he had informed Chairman Oli that he was interested in the post of General Secretary. 'We have said that it would be good if the president had a division of work and responsibilities according to his qualifications, abilities or people's interests,' he said.
There are many leaders aspiring for the posts of 3 Deputy General Secretaries and 7 Secretaries in the establishment. Current secretaries Lekhraj Bhatta, Raghubir Mahaseth, Chhabilal Bishwakarma and Padma Aryal are aspiring for the posts of Deputy General Secretary. Mahesh Basnet, who played an important role in security and residence management for Oli after the Gen-G movement, is also aspiring for the posts of Deputy General Secretary or Secretary.
Leaders Khagraj Adhikari, Bhanubhakta Dhakal, Kiran Gurung, Kashinath Adhikari, Sherdhan Rai, Rajan Bhattarai, Agni Kharel, Rajendra Gautam, Hikmat Karki, Surya Thapa, Julie Mahato, Jwala Sah, Neeraj Acharya, Narulal Chaudhary, Khimlal Bhattarai, Padam Giri and Vishal Bhattarai are aspiring for the post of secretary. Apart from the current office bearers, most of the 23 standing committees are aspiring for the post of secretary. Deputy Secretary General Bishnu Rimal said that there is no dispute on the establishment side as the team will be formed under the leadership of Chairman Oli. ‘The team will be formed under the leadership of Chairman Oli. There will be good coordination in it,’ he said.
On the other hand, the candidate for general secretary will be either Vice President Surendra Pandey or Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai. The candidate for chairman Ishwar Pokharel has the support of former President Bidya Bhandari. Pokharel said in a press conference on Wednesday that preparations are underway to form a panel. ‘We are doing our homework to form the panel,’ he said.
Vice-chairmen Yubaraj Gyawali and Ashtalakshmi Shakya, who have come out in favor of Pokharel, do not want to repeat themselves. The leaders have not come out to raise the entire panel of office bearers in the group. It has not been decided which post Secretary Gokarna Bista will run for. Preparations are underway to raise Binda Pandey for Deputy General Secretary, and Parashuram Meghi Gurung, Thakur Gaire, Surendra Manandhar, Rachana Khadka, and Ushakiran Timsena for Secretary.
'Chairman Oli should give a statement to the commission'
UML Senior Vice-Chairman Ishwar Pokharel has said that Chairman KP Sharma Oli should go to give a statement to the commission formed to investigate the incidents of 23 and 24 Bhadra.
'It is natural to go to give a statement to the commission formed by the government. If I were him, I would have gone ahead and given a statement. However, we have questions about the impartiality of the commission,' he said at a program organized on Wednesday. 'The chairman should go to give a statement to the commission, he will go. This should not be considered otherwise.'
He said that he announced his candidacy for the post of chairman to develop methods and procedures in the party. 'I did not announce my candidacy on a whim. My candidacy is to solve the problem of democratization of party life and to protect it from the danger of lack of collective leadership,' he said, 'We are advising to form a team. When competing for leadership, we look at proactivity, initiative, and superiority. We accept the results of the competition. It does not apply to us like Bhim Rawal.'
Pokharel said that there would be agreement if Oli was ready to step aside from the leadership and become a guardian. 'If he is ready to become a guardian, if the leadership is so and so, there would be agreement,' he said, 'there would be no agreement in other ways. If he steps aside and gives leadership to others, there would be no objection.'
