Nepali Communist Party (NCP) leader Narayan Kaji Shrestha has said that all political parties should move forward by supporting the government to hold the elections on the announced date.
Addressing the NCP Unity Message Assembly in Gorkha on Thursday, Shrestha said that the slogan of restoring the House of Representatives is not right now. ‘It is the policy of the time to hold the election on the announced date. Even though there was agreement on forming the government as per the Gen-G proposal, there was a way and opportunity to make it fully constitutional. We also had some disagreements on this,’ he said. ‘But after the interim government is formed and the election is announced, the immediate task is to hold the election on the announced date. Elections will take the country, the constitution, and democracy on track.’
He said that political parties should support the government in holding the election on the announced date, being aware of the threats to national sovereignty, the constitution, and democracy. ‘The government should ensure an environment for fearless, fair, and impartial elections on the announced date. Political parties should understand that now, by holding the election on the announced date, not by raising other slogans, the country can be taken in the right direction,’ he said.
Shrestha says that the country will not find a solution by re-establishing the House of Representatives and forming a regular government. ‘The matter of re-establishing the House of Representatives has reached the court, what the court does about the re-establishment is a matter for the court,’ he said, ‘Our political slogan is not re-establishment, even if the court re-establishes it, it should be for some time, it should not go on for a long time, if a regular parliament is formed and a regular government is formed, the country will fall into conflict, the crisis will increase.’ He said that the Gen-G rebellion was caused by both internal and external factors. He said that imperialist and foreign powers are making various moves to fulfill their strategic interests.
