The names of seven people have been recommended by the Nepali Congress in Jhapa Constituency-5, which is considered a stronghold of the UML, for the House of Representatives elections to be held on 21 Falgun. The names of seven people, including Khagendra Pandav Adhikari, who has contested elections twice with Oli in Jhapa-5, which is also the constituency of former Prime Minister and UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli, have been recommended by the Nepali Congress Regional Committee.
According to regional president Dhundiraj Bhandari, the names of Khagendra Prasad Pandav Adhikari, Aindra Bikram Kerung, Padam Bahadur Poudel, Mandara Chimaria, Devi Prasad Dahal, Medani Sitaula and Siram Karki have been recommended. Kerung, Sitaula and Chimaria are members of the Congress Mahasamiti, while Poudel is a leader who joined the Congress from UML 6 years ago.
Similarly, Dahal is the former treasurer of the district, while Karki is a leader who emerged from student politics. Adhikari is a leader who has previously contested the UML president twice, in the 2074 and 2079 elections.
According to president Bhandari, after many names were received for the candidates, the names were sent directly to the district without taking any risks. 'The names will reach the center through the district and province in a procedural manner. According to the letter from the center, the regional committee has recommended the names of 7 people,' he said.
While the regional committee recommended the names of 7 people, no one under the age of 40 was included. Many are expecting Gen-G candidates to contest in the upcoming elections after the Gen-G rebellion. However, the Congress has recommended the names of 7 people above the age of 40 from Jhapa-5.
Since UML Chairman Oli himself will contest the election from here, Jhapa-5 is being watched with interest to see what kind of candidate the Congress will field.
