UML Secretary Yogesh Bhattarai has said that the time has come for a change in UML leadership and that Chairman KP Sharma Oli should retire from active politics.

Oli has been in the party leadership continuously since 2071 BS and has said that the leadership needs to be transformed in the changing situation after the Gen-G rebellion.

Talking to Kathmandu Post, he said, 'Again, I do not think that KP Oli will contribute to the party in the next five years, which he could not give in the past 11-12 years as the chairman. Therefore, it would be better for him to retire from the party and active politics with dignity.'

He said that it would be difficult for old parties to regain public trust by maintaining the old leadership and said that the time has come to restructure the leadership in a new way. He said that the internal life of the party should be transparent and inclusive and also commented that the UML has become very individualistic under Oli's leadership. He said, 'We have talked about collectivism. But that collectivism has weakened and the party has become a little more individualistic.' Everything is being centered on the party chairman, and power is becoming very centralized.'

Secretary Bhattarai has also questioned the legitimacy of the Youth Volunteer Force recently formed by the party. He has said that the way the force was formed despite the fact that there is a youth association and a student association within the party, its starting point is wrong. He said, 'This is not in line with the multi-party democracy of the people that the CPN-UML is taking and the political environment that we are practicing today.'

He said that a party that supports the constitution should not form an organization that gives a sense of using force, saying, 'This is not in line with the multi-party democracy of the people that the CPN-UML is taking and the political environment that we are practicing today.'
