The Progressive Democratic Party has submitted a memorandum to the Acting Chief Election Commissioner, requesting arrangements for inter-district and constituency voting.
A group led by Pralopa President Ojaswi Bhattarai submitted a memorandum to Acting Chief Election Commissioner Ram Prasad Bhandari on Wednesday.
'Our party, the Progressive Democratic Party, is continuously striving to make Nepal's election process more inclusive, participatory and effective. Currently, the number of citizens residing in districts other than their permanent address due to employment, study, treatment and various other reasons is increasing significantly across the country,' Pralopa said. 'The current voting process does not provide sufficient facilities for such citizens, which has created a situation where they are deprived of their voting rights.'
Pralopa demands that inter-district and constituency voting be arranged in the elections to be held on Falgun 21. 'We believe that it is necessary for the Commission to make effective arrangements for inter-district and constituency voting in view of the upcoming elections.' This will allow citizens to vote easily from their district of residence or the nearest polling station, which will significantly increase public participation in the election,' the memorandum states.
Pralopa has demanded the development of the necessary technical infrastructure, database integration and verification system for inter-district voting. The party has demanded a simple and transparent system for the identification and registration process of citizens residing temporarily, and a provision for special polling stations or mobile polling booths for citizens voting from other districts.
Pralopa also said that the Commission should make necessary guidelines and legal provisions to ensure security, confidentiality and credibility in the election process. Pralopa said, 'We are confident that the Commission will take this issue seriously and take necessary steps towards ensuring the voting rights of citizens. With this in mind, we request you to initiate the necessary process for the implementation of the said system.'
