Former Prime Minister Jhalanath Khanal has claimed that the UML has now abandoned the path of socialism. Addressing the NCP's Unity Message Assembly in Biratnagar on Monday, NCP leader Khanal said that the UML is now being perceived as a 'right-wing party in the true sense'.
Khanal said that it was ironic that revolutionary agendas such as land reform and agricultural revolution were not fulfilled despite the formation of communist governments repeatedly, saying, 'We forgot our promises after coming to power. Now, we must make a firm resolve that we will reform land and carry out agricultural revolution after coming to power.'
'The country has been turned into a hell'
Khanal recalled that the country itself was reduced to 'ashes' during the Bhadra 24 movement and described the current situation as the result of extreme political instability and lack of governance. He commented that the widespread migration of youth abroad was worrying. He said, 'A new type of industrialization that provides employment to the youth in the country is now inevitable.'
Khanal said that the new unified party has moved forward with a clear direction to build 'socialism with Nepali characteristics'. Khanal also said that the Nepali Communist Party will be the hero of the next socialist revolution.
In his address, he said that good governance, transparency and an anti-corruption campaign are the main agendas to end all the chaos in the country. Khanal said, "These works are possible only by forming a government. Therefore, we must now rally the people and embark on a campaign to win the party in the upcoming elections."
