It is impossible to bid farewell to Oliji from UML: Surya Thapa

What you should know

UML central member and politburo member Surya Thapa has said that the silent trend within the party is fatal. He said that it is not clear why most of the party office bearers and central members are silent. At a press conference organized by Press Chautari in Bhairahawa on Monday, he said that the silent trend is prevailing while some are defending the party by saying that they need to save it.

‘Nowadays, those who speak in favor of the party are counted on the fingers,’ he said, ‘Will it be easy to move the party forward because of the silent pilgrims?’ He said that in such a situation, a committed, active and proactive leadership is needed for the party. He pointed out that a leader who speaks for the party’s interests and overall progress is needed. He said that the party office bearers must have the ability to explain things to others.

‘Those who remain silent are stones, they are used to make statues,’ he said, ‘Those who do not speak should not be brought into leadership.’ Targeting the criticism of the current leadership, he said that he would not allow KP Sharma Oli to be dismissed as party chairman. ‘It is impossible to dismiss Oli,’ he said, ‘The UML is trying to weaken it by splitting and dividing it. Even yesterday, no one became stronger by splitting the party, and they will not be stronger now.’

He said that the frontal conflict against Oli within the party would be broken. "There is no one to compete with KP Oli," he said, "Ishwar Pokharel should also understand." He said that a person who can debate with forces inside and outside the country should be unanimously elected as the leader. Bhim Rawal, who rebelled in the previous general convention and became the presidential candidate, received only 200 votes, and said that the situation of becoming a candidate in the general convention this time will be even worse.
