Provincial and district presidents of the Nepali Congress, who are in favor of a special general convention, have demanded that the date for the special general convention be set immediately. Issuing a joint statement on Sunday, they drew the attention of the Central Working Committee to determine the date for the special general convention as the regular general convention is not possible within the month of Poush.
'In the current situation where there is no reliable basis to ensure the 15th General Convention within the period, it should be ensured that a special general convention is held on the same date as per Article 172) and the date should be fixed immediately,' the statement said, 'The provisions of the statute relating to the special general convention are not a matter of selection by the Central Working Committee but are binding.'
They have put forward the demand through the statement that the Congress should go to the House of Representatives elections announced for Falgun 21 with new leadership and new energy along with policies and that a general convention is indispensable before the elections.
The signatories are Lumbini Province President Amar Singh Pun, Nawalpur President Mahendra Dhoj GC, Baitadi President Chatur Bahadur Chand, Arghakhanchi President Keshav Shrestha, Dhankuta President Dinesh Rai, Bhojpur President Binod Bantawa and Tehrathum President Arjun Tumbahamphe. Similarly, the signatories are Sunsari President Kedar Bhandari, Udayapur President Himal Karki, Saptari President Ramdev Shah, Rasuwa President Pembachiring Tamang, Kathmandu President Sabuj Baniya, Lalitpur President Jitendra Shrestha, Kavrepalanchok President Tirtha Lama, among others.

The Congress Central Working Committee meeting held since Asoj 28 in the difficult political situation following the Gen-G movement of last Bhadra 23-24 is still indecisive. The meeting has not been able to finalize the agenda of the 15th general convention even after one and a half months.
