Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the national crisis in the country has not yet been averted and that all leftist and patriotic forces should unite to protect national independence.

Addressing the Unity Message Assembly held at Pokhara's Human Rights Square on Sunday, he claimed that the current communist unity is a 'great national movement' not just to win power or elections but to protect the country from foreign manipulation and interference.

'Even now, the crisis has not completely passed. If you think that the crisis is over and that elections will be held normally, then that may be an illusion,' he said, 'Various reactionary forces, various types of imperialist forces are still active in Nepal. There are also internal plots to bring about another incident at any time and in any form.'

He said that this unity was carried out in a completely different, unique and extraordinary situation. He clarified that the communists were forced to unite after the threat of national independence was seen. Recounting the experience of a stateless situation in Nepal for a few hours, he said, 'We have almost reached the point where the nation will collapse.' I will not explain much now, you must have also realized, the current crisis is a national crisis . It is a crisis of protecting national independence .’

He said that he took this unity as a self-criticism meeting and resolution meeting of all the components . His commitment was to correct the shortcomings of the past and now work dedicatedly for the benefit of the nation and the people .

‘Elections will be held on Falgun 21, they must be held’

Dahal reiterated that the main objective of the current unity is to avert a national crisis, protect national independence and restore the right of the Nepali people to self-determination . He said that it has been confirmed that the majority alone is doing nothing, citing the example of the inability of the big parties to protect the nation even when they have a two-thirds majority.

However, he urged not to be in any dilemma as the upcoming elections are certain to be held on Falgun 21. ‘No one needs to be in any dilemma now . The election will be held on Falgun 21, it must be held,' he said. He claimed that the election atmosphere was ready as the Nepali Communist Party is organizing unity message meetings across the country. He urged the government to hold the election in a clean, fair and peaceful environment.

Admitting that the Gen-G movement by the youth against good governance and corruption has forced them to introspect, he mentioned that the Nepali Communist Party was the first party to support the demands of the movement.

However, he urged the people not to be misled, saying that 'populism', which has no ideas and history and becomes a leader overnight based on rumors, cannot develop the country.

Stating that a campaign to unite the entire left is ongoing, he expressed confidence that the revolutionaries who oppose KP Oli's arrogance, conceit and fake tendencies will also join the broad left unity sooner or later.

He informed that it is necessary to form a front with democratic forces including the Nepali Congress to avert a national crisis and protect democracy, and that continuous dialogue is underway in this regard.
