Former AIG Bishwaraj Pokharel is set to join the Rastriya Swatantra Party. Pokharel said that he will join the party at a program to be held at the Rashtriya Swatantra Party office this afternoon.

He says that he has entered active politics of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) as a unanimous candidate from Okhaldhunga. According to party sources, he is being inducted into the party to be given the responsibility of the Disciplinary Commission.

Talking to Kantipur, Pokharel said that he has entered active politics because he should not carry the country's problems and injustice with him. He said, 'I have entered politics because I cannot move towards good governance and development and eliminate corruption without political commitment.'

Pokharel, who was the Additional Inspector General (AIG) of Nepal Police, had resigned in July 2079. After AIG Dheeraj Pratap Singh, who was about a year and a half younger than him, was appointed Inspector General (IGP), he had approached the Supreme Court in April 2079 demanding the cancellation of his IGP promotion. Singh was appointed IGP within a month and a half of his promotion to AIG.

AIG Pokharel had joined the service as a police inspector in Chaitra 2049.
