Prime Minister Sushila Karki has urged the UML to support her in the upcoming House of Representatives elections.

She met with leaders including UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel and urged them for cooperation, saying that she is committed to holding elections.

This is the first dialogue between Prime Minister Karki and UML leaders after the formation of the new government. Mahesh Bartaula, the chief whip of the dissolved House of Representatives parliamentary party, who participated in the talks, said that he urged the Prime Minister to create an environment for the election. ‘We have positively accepted the invitation of the honorable Prime Minister for discussions. He said that the parties should cooperate,’ he said, ‘We have fought a long struggle for democracy. We do not refuse to go to the people and be tested. We do not oppose. We have not appealed to the UML, but have sought an environment for elections.’

He said that he had urged the return of prisoners who escaped from prison and looted weapons, saying that he did not see a comfortable situation for the election. ‘The police morale has been reduced by the location limit since the IGP retired. We inquired about the status of the escaped prisoners and the return of stolen weapons, and the Prime Minister said that he was making efforts,’ said Bartaula.

UML leaders had said that they were not opposing the election but wanted a comfortable environment. ‘UML is a party that prefers to go to the people. We are looking for an electoral environment,’ said Bartaula. ‘We also drew attention to the legal test.’
