Leaders in favor of a special convention have said they are not looking for a power structure before the election, but for a new policy and new leadership. In a statement issued on Thursday by the signature campaign, they said, "We are not just asking for an agenda. We are asking for a convention."

They said that the party has reached a serious crisis due to the long confusion and indecision created by the dispute over whether to hold a general convention before the elections, and the current central leadership should take full responsibility for this situation.

‘It is the first duty of all of us to fully comply with the constitution. Our every activity, initiative and solution is and remains within the scope of the constitution. The tendency to hesitate to even set a date for the regular general convention, and to unnecessarily prolong the central committee meeting without addressing the demand for a special general convention is in no way the hallmark of responsible leadership,’ the statement said. ‘We express deep regret that the leadership has ignored this demand, which was legally put forward by about 55 percent of the general convention delegates in accordance with the party constitution, to this day.’

The establishment team, including party president Deuba and acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka, is trying to bring the agenda for the regular general convention by mid-Poush. However, former office bearers of the establishment party have insisted that the petition registered with the central office demanding a special general convention to bring the regular general convention schedule should be withdrawn. Saying that this means that they do not want to bring only the establishment party agenda and hold the general convention, the leaders supporting the general secretary are not accepting it.

‘The demand for a special general convention cannot be inactive under any excuse or unreliable regular schedule. The demand for a special general convention will automatically be inactive only if the regular general convention is concluded without extending the term of the current working committee and a new leadership is elected,’ the statement issued by the special general convention support group said. They say that no one can stop or encroach on the legal-special general convention given by the party statute.

Do they think the statute applies equally to the central working committee? Questioning the leadership, asking whether the interests of the country, democracy, and the party are paramount or personal interests and aspirations, he said, "A special general convention must be held within the deadline set by the statute, December 28, to build a united and popularly desired Nepali Congress."
