Signatory delegates are gathering in Kathmandu today to press for a special general convention.
Leader Gururaj Ghimire informed that the gathering will be held at the National Assembly Bhrikutimandap after 1 pm. Representatives and cadres from outside Kathmandu are also participating in the gathering. Leaders and cadres who have been demanding reforms and reorganization of the party after the Gen-G movement and for that, a general convention should be held before the elections are starting to put pressure on the Congress to call a special general convention after seeing the possibility of not holding a regular general convention. They had submitted the signatures of 54 percent of the general convention delegates from across the country to the party's acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka on Asoj 11 itself, demanding a special general convention. The Congress's statute stipulates that a special general convention must be called within 3 months if 40 percent of the general convention delegates demand it, so the Congress is legally obliged to hold a regular or special general convention within Poush 11. They are demanding that the Congress Central Committee should decide to hold a general convention as per the demand of the majority of the general convention delegates.
