General Secretary Bishwaprakash Sharma has said that a special general convention of the Nepali Congress is mandatory. Sharma has clarified that there is no provision in the party constitution that there will be no general convention.

At a program organized at Gaighat in Udayapur, General Secretary Sharma said that the party has no option but to hold a special general convention. 'The Congress statute says that there is a clause for registering a special general convention, but there is no clause for withdrawing it, so there is no 'back gear' for a special one. A special general convention must be held within 90 days,' he said. 'If an agreement is reached to hold a regular general convention within that date, the demand for a special general convention will be addressed. It will be unfortunate if the Congress does not run according to the statute and the country does not run according to the constitution.'

Sharma said that what a leader says in the party is not important. 'What two general secretaries say or what seven brothers say, that is not the main thing now. The main question now is whether to maintain the message of restraint, coordination and maturity that President Sher Bahadur Deuba gave through a written statement on Asoj 28,' Sharma said, 'In his statement, it was said that the 'general convention in Mangsir' should not be missed. Missing that has been proven to be a mistake. The President should take decisive steps to resolve the current situation of the party and the country. I am confident that his positive intervention will lead the party to a solution.'

There is a dispute in the Congress over whether to hold a special general convention or a regular one.
