UML Senior Vice President Ishwor Pokharel has announced that he will contest for the post of president in the upcoming general convention.

A secretariat member said that he had formally informed the secretariat that he would contest for the chairmanship in the secretariat meeting on Thursday.

‘I have considered contesting for the chairmanship in this general convention. I will compete in a healthy manner,’ Pokharel said, ‘Let’s compete in a healthy manner. I am not targeting any individual.’

Then, Chairman KP Sharma Oli mentioned that he would be a candidate for chairmanship in the upcoming general convention and said that healthy competition for leadership is a tradition of the past. ‘We have been competing in the past.’ But the people who competed in the past did not remain in the party,’ he said, ‘Let’s compete in a healthy manner for leadership. Let’s unite the party.’

The 11th general convention of UML is being held in Kathmandu from Mangsir 27 to 29.
