A habeas corpus petition has been filed in the Supreme Court demanding the release of Durga Prasai, who has been claiming to be a medical practitioner and activist.

Prasai's son Nirajan registered the petition on Mangsir 3. The first hearing of Prasai's petition has been scheduled for today in a single bench of Judge Meghraj Pokharel.

Prasai is being investigated for an offense against public peace. After analyzing that he had declared a protest and made inflammatory statements and that his actions could incite violence, the police arrested him on Mangsir 1 from his residence in Thimi, Bhaktapur.

He had been claiming to hold a nationwide protest since the 7th and to shut down all sectors, including transportation. He had also urged to stop the NPL.
