Five more political parties registered applications with the Election Commission on Tuesday with the aim of participating in the House of Representatives elections.
According to the commission, the Nepal People's Protection Party, the Communist Party of Nepal (Marxist-Leninist), the Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal, the Nepal People's Party and the National Equality Party Nepal have entered the registration process.
There is a legal provision that parties registered with the commission must re-register in order to participate in the upcoming elections. The commission has given time from November 1 to 10 for that. So far, 17 political parties, including 12 on the first day and 5 on the second day, have applied for the registration process with the commission to participate in the House of Representatives elections to be held on February 21.
On the first day, the Desh Bikas Party, the Progressive Democratic Party, the Deshbak Samaj, the Nepal Democratic Party, the Nepal Workers and Peasants Party, and the National Independent Party had applied. Similarly, the Aam Janata Party, the Mongol National Organization, the Bahujan Shakti Party, the Nepal Sadbhavana Party, the Nepal Communist Party and the Nepal Humanist Party have already applied. The commission will take a decision on party registration for election purposes after studying the documents received from the parties, said Yagya Bhattarai, head of the Law and Political Parties Division.
Similarly, the Commission has received applications from four political parties with the aim of participating in the National Assembly elections to be held on 11th Magh. Nepal Mazdoor Kisan Party, Bahujan Shakti Party, Nepali Communist Party and Janata Samajwadi Party Nepal have registered their applications for party registration with the Commission for the purpose of the National Assembly elections.
Similarly, six new parties have been registered with the Commission. The Nepal Communist Party (Maoist) led by Netra Bikram Chand was added to the list of new parties on Tuesday. Earlier, the party had kept the name Communist Party Nepal. Later, it was registered after changing its name.
The party's general secretary Chand has received the party registration certificate from the Commission. Earlier, the Shram Sanskriti Party, Dynamic Democratic Party, Nagarik Unmukti Party, Rastriya Parivartan Party, and Rastriya Janmat Party have received the registration certificate.
Apart from the newly registered parties, the Nepali Communist Party, which was formed by merging five parties, has also received the certificate of unification. The applications of 28 more parties for new registration are pending with the Commission.
