Informal discussions have intensified between various factions of the party to resolve the ongoing internal disputes within the Nepali Congress.

Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav said that a nine-member coordination group was formed to reach a consensus on the general convention in an informal meeting of the work execution committee held on Friday.

In the meeting, leader Shekhar Koirala had proposed to assign the responsibility to acting president Purna Bahadur Khadka, vice president Dhanraj Gurung, and general secretaries Doy Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma. The establishment side proposed to include Joint General Secretary Mahendra Yadav in the proposal that the president, vice president, and two general secretaries work together to move the consensus process forward.

During the discussion, Joint General Secretary Yadav proposed to include former office bearers Krishna Sitaula, Bimalendra Nidhi, Prakashman Singh, and Vijay Gachhadar in this coordination, after which a nine-member coordination committee was formed.

The timing of the upcoming general convention is not yet clear in the discussions among the leaders. The idea of holding the regular general convention is shared, but the main dispute is whether to hold the general convention before or after the elections.

Another leader said that an attempt will be made to reach an understanding by holding a meeting from Saturday morning to resolve the dispute. A meeting of the Central Working Committee has been called for Saturday. Since the decision has to be made public in tomorrow's meeting, an attempt is being made to reach an understanding about the decision before that.

Amidst the heated dispute within the Congress, President Sher Bahadur Deuba is returning from Singapore tonight. The leaders of the establishment party have planned to hold discussions with Deuba on Saturday to reach a common understanding on the issue of the general convention.
