Prime Minister Sushila Karki has discussed the feasibility of inter-constituency voting arrangements for citizens living abroad.

A team led by Minister Om Prakash Aryal from the Ministry of Home Affairs participated in the discussion held at the Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers. Officials from the Ministry of Law, Election Commission, Policy Research Institute, and National Registration Department also participated.

The Policy Research Institute presented a summary of its study on possible options for voting from outside the country and outside one's constituency. After the presentation and discussion, Prime Minister Karki said that at least intra-constituency voting should be done before it becomes possible.

Stating that the financial burden on candidates and parties due to the compulsion to transport voters is very heavy and that it has also led to corruption and other irregularities, she opined that a strong step should be taken. 'If we are going to hold elections in the old way, there is no point in holding a Genji movement. Let's do something with a message. Do it in a strong way. Let's establish a system for tomorrow as well,' she said. 'The initiative we are trying to take should also have political level understanding. All parties should be ready. Our children are far ahead in digital literacy. How ready should the political leadership be to understand this. If we had understood this much earlier, the incidents of Bhadra 23 and 24 would not have happened.'

Home Minister Om Prakash Aryal also said that some strides must be made this time compared to previous elections. 'This is an electoral government. It is a government that has come to conduct elections with reforms, removing the weaknesses and defects of the past. Therefore, some strides must be made,' he said.

After the discussion, a mechanism has been formed comprising the Executive Chairman of the Policy Research Foundation, Secretary of the Ministry of Law, Parashwar Dhungana, and a representative of the Election Commission to make suggestions on the work, cost, and legal structure regarding inter-constituency voting and the exercise of the franchise of Nepalis living abroad.
