Former Nepali Congress vice president Bimalendra Nidhi has said that no kind of general convention should be held before the election. Stating that a party general convention would harm the party in the election, Nidhi said that the party should not be in favor of holding any special or regular general convention.

‘The party cannot go beyond the elections. I am not in favor of restoring the parliament either. These days, it is one election, two elections, three elections,’ said Nidhi, ‘Let’s hold the party’s general convention only after the elections.’

He also said that the demand for a special general convention should not be taken forward. ‘Not only regular, but also a special general convention cannot be held. No one should go beyond the elections and participate in the general convention, why should we pursue something that is not possible,’ he said.

Among the seven former office bearers, another former general secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula and Nidhi have been seen as the most liberal on the issue of the general convention. Sitaula also said that holding any kind of general convention before the general convention will affect the elections. ‘As of today, I am not in favor of any kind of general convention. When asked if you are afraid of the general secretaries and are not going to the general convention, Sitaula said, ‘Why are you afraid? Not afraid. We are saying this because we think it will damage the election.’

When Sitaula was asked if he was afraid that the general secretaries would take over the party, he said, ‘No one can take over our party. Our party is not like the Communist Party.’ Finally, when asked if he was afraid that if the general secretaries come to the leadership, you will not get a role in the party, he added, ‘No. What role have we got so far? We have been central members. We have been respecting the general secretaries even when they are office bearers. That is why we will not have any difficulty even if they come to the leadership.’
