Former UML vice-chairman Bhim Rawal is set to join the Nepali Communist Party (NCP), a coalition of the Maoist Center, Unified Socialists and smaller parties. He is set to join the new NCP, which formed the 'Matribhumi National Awakening Campaign' after the UML 'took action'.

According to a leader of the new NCP, a party integration program has been organized with Rawal's Matrubhumi National Jagran Abhiyan at the National Assembly House on Wednesday. The program on Wednesday is scheduled to be addressed by NCP coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, co-coordinator Madhav Kumar Nepal, Matrubhumi Jagran Abhiyan, and Nepal coordinator Bhim Rawal.

In a discussion held on Sunday with NCP coordinator Dahal, co-coordinator Nepal, leaders Prakash Jwala, and Bhanubhakta Joshi, Rawal had said that he would join the party because he had similar views on issues including nationality. According to a leader who participated in the discussion, it is almost certain that Rawal will be given priority in the new NCP based on his position and rank in the NCP formed after the UML and Maoist unity in 2075 BS.

He has political influence in the Far West and Karnali provinces. Dahal and Nepal understand that Rawal will have a positive impact on the Far West and Karnali provinces after joining the new NCP.

UML had taken action against Rawal in 2081 Paush for making statements against the party's policy, even removing him from the party's organized membership. He had competed with KP Oli Sharma for the post of chairman at the 10th general convention held in Chitwan in Mangsir, 2078. After being defeated for the post of chairman, he had been presenting himself as a strong critic of Oli.
