The Nepali Congress has started collecting signatures of outgoing MPs against the dissolution of the House of Representatives. The Congress, which has been saying that the dissolution of the parliament is unconstitutional, has started collecting signatures of members of the dissolved House of Representatives.
Shyam Kumar Ghimire, the chief whip of the dissolved House of Representatives, informed that the signature collection process has begun. 'The party has been saying that the dissolution is unconstitutional.' However, it is not yet clear what decision will be taken regarding the reinstatement,' Ghimire said. 'The party has started collecting signatures of the MPs so that the party central committee should take an official decision regarding the dissolution.'
Ghimire informed that the signature collection process of the dissolved House of Representatives members has started since Saturday. He said that the collected signatures are ready to be submitted to the current meeting of the central committee. 'We have not collected signatures to submit them directly to the court. We have to submit them to the central committee meeting and take a decision from there,' he said.
The Congress, which has been calling the dissolution of the House of Representatives unconstitutional politically, will decide on what steps to take from the central committee after collecting the signatures of the outgoing MPs.
President Ram Chandra Poudel dissolved the House of Representatives on Bhadra 27 on the recommendation of Prime Minister Sushila Karki. 17 writ petitions have been filed in the Supreme Court against the decision. The Supreme Court has already sought written responses from the opposition President's Office, the Prime Minister's Office, and others on the writ petitions against the dissolution.
