Ten constituents who consider themselves communists have united and announced the 'Nepali Communist Party' on Wednesday. Pushpa Kamal Dahal has been selected as the coordinator of the newly formed party and Madhav Kumar Nepal as the co-coordinator. The party, which will have 1,000 central members, is expected to hold a general convention within the next six months. The party's election symbol will be the 'five-pointed star'.

The unification process includes the CPN (Maoist Center) chaired by Pushpa Kamal Dahal, the CPN (Unified Socialist) chaired by Madhav Kumar Nepal, the Nepal Samajwadi Party chaired by Mahindra Ray Yadav, the Jana Samajwadi Party, Nepal, the Communist Party of Nepal chaired by Chiran Pun, the CPN (Socialist) chaired by Raju Karki, the CPN (Maoist Socialist) chaired by Karnajit Budhathoki, the CPN (Communist) chaired by Prem Bahadur Singh, the Maoist Communist Center chaired by Keshav Dahal, and the Patriotic Socialist Front chaired by Gopal Kiranti.

With a history spanning over 75 years, many components of the Nepal Communist Party have experienced unification and division several times. The 'Nepali Communist Party' is just the latest reference, which has presented an example of unification. But the two big parties that were united in the unification process, the Maoist Center and the Unified Socialist, have themselves been torn apart. Some leaders of those parties are not united, but are saying that they will move forward in a new way. So this time, along with unity, there has also been division.

The Nepal Communist Party, formed in 2006 under the leadership of Pushpalal Shrestha, held its second general convention in 2014. The convention passed Pushpalal's policy. Kesharjung Rayamajhi was elected as the leader.

The next general convention was supposed to be in Falgun 2017. But in the same month, the then King Mahendra staged a 'coup'. Rayamajhi welcomed the king's move. In the absence of a general convention, differences of opinion also began to emerge on the issue of understanding such a big event that had taken place in the country. Meanwhile, in Baisakh 2019, the Pushpalal faction held its third general convention. Thus, the party, which had been fundamentally unified until then, split in 2019. After that, not only did it split, but in the 20s and 30s, the Communist Party itself fell into pieces. There was a situation where each group/party had its own name and leadership for the current leaders. Parties known by the names of leaders like Tulsilal Amatya, Krishnaraj Burma, Bishnu Bahadur Manandhar, Manmohan Adhikari, Pushpalal existed .

CPN-ML is a great example of unity .

Communist representatives from various parties and groups including Jhapa District Committee, Nepal Krantikari Sanghatan, Morang formed the All Nepal Coordination Committee (Koke for short) in 2032 Jestha . Koke included leaders like CP Mainali, Madhav Kumar Nepal, Jhalanath Khanal . CP Mainali was in the leadership as the secretary . Even though the leaders under his leadership including him were arrested, Koke continued to move forward . Groups including Mukti Morcha, Purvako Rato Jhandha, Paschim Ko Rato Jhandha (Message) were mixed into it . Koke also held a conference in Shrawan 2035 . Jivaraj Ashrit and Madan Bhandari also joined here. After the party became powerful, a national conference was held in Morang in 2035 and the CPN-ML was formed under the leadership of CP Mainali. This party is the main basis of today's UML.

The party formed under the leadership of Pushpalal in 2019 was in decline, but it still existed. After Pushpalal's death, his wife Sahna Pradhan led the party.

After the Panchayat began and the arrested leaders were released, the CPN nucleus was formed under the leadership of Manmohan Adhikari. Despite the division, Adhikari remained at the head of one group. Later, the party led by Sahna Pradhan merged with the party led by Manmohan Adhikari, and the CPN-Marxist was formed in 2043.

The CPN-UML was formed after the merger between the ML formed in 2035 and the Marxists formed in 2043.

The party led by Manmohan Adhikari was split in 2031 by Mohan Bikram Singh. This party led by Singh remained in the news throughout the 30s as CPN Chaum. But in 2040, it split - CPN Mashal (Big Mashal) came into existence as a new party under the leadership of Mohan Bikram Singh. Nirmal Lama continued CPN Chaum.

The party led by Singh split again. In 2042, Mohan Vaidya came under the leadership of Mashal (Big Mashal). CPN Masal (Thin Masal) came into existence under the leadership of Singh.

After the sector scandal, Pushpa Kamal Dahal came under the leadership of Vaidya under the leadership of CPN Mashal (Big Mashal). After that, he gave priority to broad unity. Accordingly, a center of unity was formed under his leadership. In which Baburam Bhattarai and others rebelled against Mohan Bikram Singh. Similarly, the Nirmal Lama-led CPN Chaum also joined. However, this party could not remain united for long. In 2051, after failing to reach a consensus on the issue of armed conflict, the Dahal faction formed the CPN-Maoist. And the party started an armed war from 2052.

After that, the Maoist faction continued to grow strong for a long time.

After the restoration of multi-party democracy, the CPN-UML, which had established itself as a strong force in the general elections held in 2048 and 2051, split in 2054. After the controversial Mahakali Treaty passed by a joint meeting of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly in Asoj 2053, the growing differences in the party ended in a split. In 2054, Sahana Pradhan, Bamdev Gautam, CP Mainali and others split the UML and formed the CPN-ML. But the main force of the MLA, which could not win a single seat in the 2056 general election, merged with the UML in 2058. Mainali and others continued the MLA.

The CPN-Maoist emerged as a strong force from the armed conflict. It also became the first force from the first Constituent Assembly election held in 2064. Meanwhile, when the split occurred in 2051, the main force on the other side came to unite again. Thus, after the unity between the CPN-Maoist and the Ekta Kendra Masal, the Unified CPN-Maoist was formed. Matrika Yadav, who rejected the unity, continued the CPN-Maoist. However, in 2069, the Maoists split into two factions under the leadership of Mohan Vaidya. Netra Bikram Chand also split the party led by Vaidya. Baburam Bhattarai also separated from the UMA in 2072. He formed a new force.

In 2073 BS, a major unity was achieved between 10 Maoist components. At that time, Pushpa Kamal Dahal's Unified CPN-Maoist, Matrika Yadav-led CPN-Maoist, Mani Thapa-led Revolutionary Communist Party Nepal, Bhavisor Parajuli's Gauravshali Party Nepal, and the Left Unity Forum were united. Similarly, the Tilak Pariyar-led rebel group that split from the Netra Bikram Chand-led CPN-Maoist, the reorganized CPN-Maoist-Maoist led by Ram Bahadur Thapa, the rebel group of the Naya Shakti Abhiyan, CPN-Maoist rebels, and independent Maoist leader Jaipuri Gharti were united.

Until now, the two-stream communist parties that developed from the 1930s ML and CHAUM were influential in Nepal. UML and Maoist Center were carrying on the legacy of ML and CHAUM, respectively. These two parties also united in 2075 BS. The left-wing alliance formed in the 2074 elections and promised party unity, and on 2075, the Nepal Communist Party (NCP) was formed by uniting on 30 Jestha 2075. After the unity of the two streams of communists, the most powerful communist party in history was formed.

Despite being a powerful party, differences had begun to appear in the NCP from the beginning. When the power struggle was at its peak, the Supreme Court in Falgun 2077 brought the two parties back to the status quo before the unity. In other words, the unity was broken. At that time, due to differences within the party, the Supreme Court's decision was considered to be only technical and attempts to continue the unity in a political manner could not be made.

A few months after the UML and the Maoist Center returned to their previous status, the UML also split in Bhadra 2078. The CPN Unified Socialist was formed under the leadership of Madhav Kumar Nepal. UML Vice President Bamdev Gautam also left the party and launched the 'NCP Ekta Rastriya Abhiyan'. Later, he joined the Nepal-led Unified Socialists.

Eventually, 10 components including the Nepal-led Unified Socialists united to form the 'Nepali Communist Party'. In terms of polarization, the UML and the Nepali Communist Party have become the two major factions. Public support, however, remains to be tested.
