Nepali Congress spokesperson Prakash Sharan Mahat has urged the leadership to unite and abandon internal power struggles, saying that the party, democracy, and the country are currently going through an unprecedented crisis.

Addressing the ongoing meeting of the Central Committee, he said, 'Today the country is in crisis, our party is in crisis, democracy is in crisis, we are also in crisis personally.'  He said that the cause of the current crisis, the solution and the leadership role of the party should be discussed, but that has not happened.

'We agree with the movement of the new generation on Bhadra 23 demanding to ensure good governance. But the incidents of destruction on the 24th cannot be considered an achievement. The attacks on Singha Durbar, Supreme Court, Parliament, and Rashtrapati Bhavan were not a spontaneous impulse of the young generation, they were just a means,' he said. He mentioned that he was being character-killed from within the party and said that he was in a situation where the competition should be with the opposition and he had to continue to struggle within the party.

Quoting BP Koirala, he said - 'When the mouth of truth is closed, the mouth of lies opens. Today, the mouth of those who speak the truth in the party is closed, but the lies and attacks are blatant against themselves.'

He stressed that the party should focus on the national elections rather than the debate on the general convention and special convention. 'Before the debate on whether to hold the convention now or later, we should provide leadership to get the country out of the challenges,' Mahat said.
