Communist Party General Secretary Nekravitrim Chandra, Progressive Movement leader and former Deputy General Secretary of the Maoists Janardan Sharma, and former General Secretary of the Unified Socialist Party of Nepal Ghanshyam Bhusal have reached an agreement in principle to collaborate for a broad leftist campaign.
In a meeting held at Chand Niwas Hattivan on Friday morning, an agreement was reached to collaborate between leftist and patriotic forces. ‘We can say that there is a principled agreement to collaborate politically for a broad leftist campaign,’ Bhusal told Ikantitur, ‘In addition, there has been a discussion with other socialist forces in the country.’
Discussions are underway on the name and structure of the front to be formed by the three leaders. Preparations are underway to issue a joint statement on the roadmap for the coming days by Friday afternoon. ‘Currently, the status of the party in the country is collapsing. In such a situation, we have discussed that collaboration between leftist, patriotic and socialist forces is necessary,’ said Bhusal.
During the discussion, Sharma said that since he and leader Ram Karki have already made public their views as part of the campaign, it is necessary to expand it.
During the meeting, Chand had said that the Samajwadi Front, which was previously coordinated by Nepali Communist Party Coordinator Pushpa Kamal Dahal, had lost its relevance and needed to move forward in a new way. Chand is currently the coordinator of the Samajwadi Front. He said that the relevance of the front has been questioned after the Maoists and the CPN-Unified Socialists in the front united.
Before the unity between the Maoists, the CPN-Unified Socialists and other small parties, the three leaders had said that they would launch a large-scale campaign from the common platform.
