Youths close to Congress leader Shekhar Koirala gathered on Thursday to press for a regular general convention within Mangsir. Establishment-leaning leaders and activists were also present at the gathering.
The gathering organized at Anupam Foodland in Battisputali was chaired by Bhaktapur District President Durlabh Thapa, who is close to the establishment party. Uddhav Thapa, President of the Koshi Province Working Committee, close to General Secretary Krishna Prasad Sitaula, also expressed his opinion at the gathering. Thapa is the same person who had expressed his opinion that a general convention was impossible under any circumstances before the elections in the central working committee meeting.
Youth leader Deepak Bhattarai, close to Shekhar, said that the establishment party also attended the program they organized and expressed its support. ‘Our clear demand is that a regular general convention should be held within Mangsir. We will not compromise on it. Anyone who agrees with this issue can join,’ he said. ‘If a regular general convention is not held within Mangsir, our other demand is that the central working committee should be dissolved on the day of the end of its term.’
Youth leader Ranjit Karna, who is also the former president of the Nepali Sangh, has also expressed his opinion that a regular general convention should be held within Mangsir. ‘The term of our general convention representatives has also expired, now we are just cadres. If there is no regular general convention within Mangsir, the term cannot be extended, the central working committee should be dissolved.’
Earlier, they had padlocked the central office demanding to bring the agenda of the general convention. ‘Our stance is that the general convention should be held within Mangsir, if not, we will support it even if it is agreed on the date of 16-19 proposed by General Secretary Gagan Thapa,’ Bhattarai said, ‘The general convention cannot be pushed after the elections.’
