Holding different views on party unity, General Secretary of the United Socialist Party, Ghanshyam Bhusal, has held a press conference saying that he will launch a campaign for left-wing unity, while Ram Kumari Jhankri and Kisan Shrestha have also held separate press conferences.
The series of polarization and disintegration in the communist parties of Nepal has intensified. Apart from the CPN-UML, polarization and disintegration continue in the smaller communist parties including the Maoist Center, the CPN Unified Socialist, the Communist Party of Nepal. Along with the reorganization campaign of the parties after the Gen-G movement, there has been a series of intense disputes in the communist parties and with it, a series of unifications of the previously divided parties.
Eight small parties, including the Maoist Center and the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, are holding a unity declaration program at Bhrikuti Mandap in Kathmandu today. They have agreed to name the party Nepali Communist Party and the election symbol is the star. Pushpa Kamal Dahal will be the coordinator of the new party and Madhav Kumar Nepal will be the co-coordinator.
After the unity was announced, they are preparing to apply to the Election Commission for party registration. Meanwhile, while the unity declaration program is being held, the Janardan Sharma group, which broke away from the Maoists, has launched a campaign called Transparent Nepal, while General Secretary Ghanshyam Bhusal, who broke away from the CPN-Unified Socialist Party, is going to hold a press conference today and launch a campaign for the Virat Bam Unity.
Similarly, CPN-S leader Ram Kumari Jhankri, who broke away from it, and former MP Kisan Shrestha are going to hold a separate press conference to inform that they are joining the UML. Separate press conferences are going to be held for the Bhusal and Jhankri factions. CPN-S senior leader Jhalanath Khanal met UML Chairman KP Sharma Oli on Tuesday evening and held discussions.
During the discussion, Oli informed that although the door is open to joining the UML, no conditions will be imposed. Khanal had indicated that he would join the UML on conditions including that the UML should abandon multi-party democracy.
