Bamdev Gautam, leader of the newly formed Nepali Communist Party, has proposed implementing a directly elected presidential system in the country.

Speaking at the party's national unity conference held in Kathmandu on Wednesday, he said that a directly elected presidential system is necessary to move the country forward as the current system of government always changes every 6 months or every month.

He also stressed the need for a proportional electoral system, saying, 'This system of always changing governments every 6 months, changing governments every month, should be ended and a directly elected presidential system should be established. Also, a fully proportional electoral system should be implemented. Only then can the country move forward. My humble request is to pass this proposal, the people are ready to support it.'

Leader Gautam said that for the party to run, there should also be a system where leaders must work in a labor camp for one month a year.
