”First of all, the government that will hold the elections will have to undergo a constitutional test. What will the Supreme Court's decision be after some time? That will determine the path.”

UML General Secretary Shankar Pokharel has said that UML will participate in the elections if there is an atmosphere of trust.

‘First, there has to be faith that the election will take place. Which there is no faith in. First, there has to be faith in saying that the election will take place. An environment of trust has not been created,’ he said, ‘First, there has to be a credible basis for the election to take place. Our party has not done it. I will only tell you this – the CPN-UML party is not a party that runs away from the election.’

He has doubts about the election being held on Falgun 21. He accused the government of not paying attention to holding the election and making many excuses.

‘It is unimaginable that the first party of the people’s choice will deviate from the public opinion, but it is childish to go around saying that we will participate in an election that will not take place,’ he told reporters on Monday. ‘First, the government that will hold the election has to undergo a constitutional test. What will the Supreme Court’s verdict come after some time? That will decide the way.’

He said that the peace and security situation for holding the election is challenging. ‘Is there an environment where people can participate in the election or not? Is there an environment for political parties to participate in the elections?, he said, “Isn’t the government’s intention to create an uncomfortable environment?”
