Nepali Congress youth leader Nainsingh Mahar has accused party officials of holding the Central Working Committee hostage. After the party's Central Working Committee meeting was postponed for another two days, Mahar, in an interaction with party cadres from sister organizations, said that an attempt was made to weaken the Congress by holding the meeting hostage to indecision at a time when it should play an important role in national politics.
He also urged the office bearers to expedite the regular general convention schedule. ‘I feel that the party’s activities have been held hostage by the repeated postponement of the central committee meetings due to the failure to submit the agenda on time,’ said Mahar. He pointed out that the central committee and especially the top office bearers are responsible for the failure to hold the general convention, which should be held every four years as per the party’s statute, to this day. He said that the ‘V-Five’ office bearers including the president, vice president and general secretary are more responsible for the failure to hold the general convention on time. ‘The current situation has come about due to the failure to fulfill the responsibilities given by the constitution and the failure to complete the work including distribution of membership on time,’ he said. The office bearers who brought the party to this situation should take responsibility for the weakness.’ He stressed that all suggestions within the party, such as holding a special general convention, a regular general convention or a general convention on time, would strengthen the Congress and stressed the need to come up with a unified view immediately by including all ideological groups.
