Congress office bearers' meeting to discuss general convention schedule inconclusive

A meeting of Nepali Congress office bearers held to reach an agreement on the agenda for the party's upcoming general convention has been inconclusive.

A meeting of party officials held at the party headquarters in Sanepa on Saturday to resolve the dispute over whether to hold the election before or after could not be reached. The meeting ended with a unanimous decision, said party spokesperson Dr. Prakash Sharan Mahat.

According to spokesperson Mahat, the meeting of party officials has concluded. 'Our focus is on how to bring the ongoing discussions in the Central Working Committee to a unanimous decision. I have experienced that a consensus has been reached. I believe that the Central Committee will decide based on this consensus, and will reach a conclusion from the same perspective,' he said.

He said there is a difference of opinion on whether it is better to hold the 15th General Convention before or after the general election. 'But in many ways, we have come close, and I think we will eventually reach the same conclusion.'

The Nepali Congress establishment has been taking the stance that it would be appropriate to hold the party's general convention only after the election, around the upcoming Baisakh. But other parties, including General Secretaries Gagan Thapa and Bishwaprakash Sharma, have been demanding a special general convention before the election. The current central committee meeting has also been postponed until tomorrow due to growing differences on this issue.
