What you should know
Amidst questions being raised over the justification for forming a new party by rebelling from the UML, Unified Socialist Party Chairman Madhav Kumar Nepal has defended the move. He has claimed that the justification for rebelling from the UML has been confirmed.
In the political report presented to the Central Committee, which began on Wednesday, they have claimed that the rebellion was necessary. ‘Our rebellion was not unjustified, it was appropriate. The reasons for the rebellion were appropriate and the rebellion was necessary. We did not rebel only because of internal contradictions and ideological struggles within the party,’ Nepal claims. ‘Although there was also this ideological struggle and resistance in the background of the rebellion, we openly rebelled when KP Oli, who is also the party chairman and prime minister, dissolved the House of Representatives in an unconstitutional manner on 2077 Poush 5 and pushed the country towards regression.’
Nepal has claimed that it was appropriate to rebel from the UML in collaboration with the Congress and the Maoists to protect democracy.
‘Our rebellion was a legitimate rebellion carried out to protect the democracy that the Nepali people brought with hard struggle. That rebellion was necessary and justified,' he said, 'The purpose for which we rebelled to save the House of Representatives and protect the constitution and democracy has been fulfilled, so the justification of the rebellion has been confirmed.'
Stating that the UML has resolved to reorganize and transform the Nepali communist movement, he said that efforts are being made to do so. 'This is not a task that can be completed immediately. For that, hard work will have to be done for a long time,' the report states, 'Our efforts are continuous. We have completed the ideological reorganization by adopting the socialist program and line of action, while the organizational reorganization is still ongoing.'
Emphasis on the unity of the Socialist Front and the Left
Chairman Nepal has emphasized the unity of the Socialist Front and the Left in his political report. 'For party unity, first of all, there must be uniformity in fundamental issues such as the party's name, guiding principles, organizational principles, strategic goals, revolutionary program, line of action and tactics. Along with that, the issue of what the organizational structure and working system will be like is equally important. Without equality on these important issues, no party can unite with anyone,' he wrote, 'If there is equality on all these issues and a consensus is built, not only is it not wrong to unite, but there should be no delay in completing the unity. Therefore, we have adopted a policy of uniting with communist groups that share the same ideas, principles, programs, lines of action and strategic goals.'
While preparations are being made to unite with the Maoists, he has said that there should be no delay in uniting the Left. 'According to our declared policy, we have emphasized on building the current socialist front and have been working on it by being involved. The work done through the Socialist Front may not be enough, but it has done some very important work,' he said in the report. 'Regarding left unity, we have been emphasizing from the beginning that there should be unity among revolutionary communists, especially communist elements that have adopted the socialist line and program.'
He stressed on unity, stating that a strong revolutionary force is necessary to complete the socialist revolution. 'That strong revolutionary force can only be built through unity among the revolutionary communist parties here. However, party unity cannot happen without building a clear foundation,' he said in the report.
