”There is no other option, we have moved forward with the confidence that the elections will be held on Falgun 21.”
What you should know
CPN-Maoist Center Coordinator and former Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal has said that the government should focus on successfully conducting the elections.
Speaking to reporters after a training session for leading cadres in Gorkha on Sunday, Dahal said there was no other option but to create an electoral environment. ‘The government should also focus on creating an electoral environment. The Home Minister has the main responsibility of focusing all security agencies and administrative mechanisms on the elections,’ he said. ‘I would like to suggest that it is appropriate to focus on successfully completing the elections rather than elsewhere.’
He said that the government has also repeatedly called all-party meetings and expressed its commitment to hold elections. ‘Even when talking to neighbors diplomatically, they are now saying that elections should be held in Nepal and the people are also moving towards ending the situation of uncertainty through elections,’ he said.
Dahal also said that all parties have become election-focused. ‘What was the UML going to do? It has started saying that elections are inevitable since yesterday,’ he said. ‘The country has already moved towards elections, we all have to create an electoral environment.’ He said that he was confident that UML would also participate in the elections. ‘There is no other way, we have moved forward with the belief that elections will be held on Falgun 21,’ he said.
Saying that the Genji protest of Bhadra 23 was historic, he claimed that the demands raised by Genji were in line with the Maoists. ‘It is a pity that we were not able to lead the Genji movement. It would have been a great thing if we had been able to lead it,’ he said.
