Question to Oli in UML meeting - Who will take responsibility for the murder of 'Nanibabu' on Bhadra 23?

What you should know

The question of who will take responsibility for the killing of the children on Bhadra 23 has been raised in the UML central committee meeting. The question was raised when Chairman KP Sharma Oli was claiming that he did not have the authority to give the order to open fire that day. In the meeting on Friday, central member Usha Kiran Timsina asked who will take responsibility for the killing of the children.

‘We are in the Central Committee after the devastation, destruction and tragedy, but here we are saying that the key leaders are successful. Who has failed now? Just the other day, small children were massacred. Public and private property worth billions was set on fire. Who will take moral responsibility for all of this?’ she asked in the meeting, ‘Will the police constable who opened fire take responsibility or will the police be made a partner? Or will the immediate authority be morally responsible for this, Comrade?’

She said that even after a decade of Oli being the chairman, the damage done to the communist movement in Nepal should be assessed. ‘Comrade Oli has been the chairman of this party for 11 years. Where have the practices in these 11 years taken us, the left movement and the entire communist movement?’ Timsina asked, ‘The formation of the NCP was an important link. But what kind of exercises and what destructive exercises did we do?'

She said that the tested young generation after the Gen-G movement should take a leave. 'A compelling demand of this Gen-G movement is that the tested leadership and generation of the party should take a leave. It cannot be ignored anymore,' Timsina said, 'The reorganization of UML is important. It has already started in the Congress. Now the chairman should resign and open the door to the country's political deadlock.' She said that it is not possible to go to elections or movements with the current structure of the party.

Speaking at the meeting, leader Thakur Gaire said that the leadership should be handed over. 'The government formed by uniting the Left also collapsed. The Left-Democratic government also collapsed. At such a time, the issue of party transformation should not be understood as a protest against the leadership,' she added, 'I request that we hand over the leadership to this meeting.'

Another central member, Ishwari Gharti, said that representatives should be selected to ensure the representation of the youth, including the Gen-G generation, in the upcoming eleventh general convention of the party. 'We should ensure the representation of the youth, including the Gen-G generation, in the new general convention from the general convention,' she said, 'Let us understand that the party cannot be restructured and strengthened by the tradition that persists in the party, and it will become weaker.'

She suggested that the restoration of the dissolved House of Representatives be sought through legal and political dialogue between parties rather than street protests so that there is no confrontation.

Another central member, Niraj Acharya, said that the problem has arisen due to the lack of proper arrangements for 'entry and exit' in the party. 'We have made good arrangements for entry within the organizational structure we have adopted. But there seems to be confusion due to the lack of an exit arrangement,' he said, 'The new generation is always asking whether all the party workers can stay in their posts for life.'

Another central member, Arbind Singh, said that the general anger is against Chairman Oli and that the weakness should be accepted. 'In the current situation, the people's anger is not against the CPN-UML but against the party chairman, his statements and the group that is keeping him under siege. Therefore, the only way to save the party's future is to accept that reality and pave the way by handing over the responsibility,' he said.

He said that since he himself dissolved the parliament twice, going on a movement demanding the restoration of the parliament would only be a laughing stock. 'We are only the object of hatred and laughter among the general public. The policy of boycotting the elections is a plan to provoke another clash. There is no alternative to correcting the weaknesses and going to the elections,' he said.
