The Communist Party of Nepal (CPN) led by Netra Bikram Chand has concluded that although the objectives of the Genji Movement held on Bhadra 23 were appropriate, the results were not good.

Presenting a political report at the ongoing central committee meeting in Kapilvastu, General Secretary Chand mentioned that although Genji had organized a movement with the right objective of good governance and against corruption, the results did not come as expected. A central member said that he also claimed that foreign powers had manipulated the Genji movement.

‘Although the Genji rebellion was appropriate, its results were not good,’ the leader said, citing the incident quoted in the report, ‘Foreign powers manipulated Genji’s movement. Due to which Genji’s movement could not produce the right results.’

Chand also claimed that elections cannot be held on the announced date in this situation. A leader who attended the meeting said that he had also raised questions about the government led by former Chief Justice Sushila Karki.

Chand has written in the report that he is not confident that the party will unite with the Maoist Center. He says that despite talks with the Maoists, no results have been achieved. Most of the 125 central members who spoke at the meeting suggested forming a new communist center under the leadership of Chand.

‘Most of the central members suggest forming a communist polarization or a new center under the leadership of the general secretary,’ said a central member.

Even though the NCP decided to unite with the Maoists a year ago, the process could not move forward. The latest central committee of the Maoists has decided to move forward the unity process with the NCP and other parties and has started discussions. Even though the NCP has come close to uniting with the Unified Socialists for unity, there has been no significant progress with the former Maoist faction of the NCP.

The meeting emphasized production-oriented programs along with political awareness.

The central committee meeting held in December 2081 had decided to move forward political campaigns and agricultural production simultaneously. The NCP had also passed a new proposal for a ‘new economic path’, saying that it would become self-reliant in agricultural production.

Earlier, the Central Committee meeting of the NCP, which had collectively started agricultural cooperatives, animal husbandry and garment industries, had passed a special proposal for production in agriculture.

The issue of economic production was prominently raised in General Secretary Chand's political proposal.

After entering peaceful politics in Falgun 2077, the NCP has been renting land and starting collective farming in some districts including Kapilvastu. Before that, the NCP had tried to rebel underground but failed.

The NCP claimed that the economic campaign to make the party, leaders and workers self-reliant was more effective and result-oriented than expected. It has stated that it has been more successful than others had expected, not only in terms of propaganda but also in terms of results. 'At this time, the identity and reputation of the party have become a product,' Chand said in the report, 'This is a pleasant feeling for the NCP and its leaders and workers.'

General Secretary Chand had said that the economic front would emphasize production to lead politics. ‘Time has made it necessary to command politics from the economic front. New developments in economic relations are still necessary to turn the ups and downs created in the revolution into ups and downs, defensiveness into aggression, and defeat into victory,’ says Chand’s political proposal. ‘The NCP, understanding this, is moving forward by synthesizing the long-term importance of economic issues. The results are also coming positive.’

The NCP has been cultivating rice, pulses, oilseeds, and fruits on 120 bighas in the Himalayas, hills, and Terai.
