The Nepali Congress has asked to be vigilant to avoid heavy rains and possible disasters. On Saturday, Chief Secretary Krishna Prasad Poudel issued a statement and appealed to the government, political parties, volunteers and all citizens to be alert and prepared to face the disaster along with the prediction of heavy rains by the Department of Water and Meteorology.

Through the statement, the Congress proposed a seven-point alert to deal with the risk of heavy rains and possible flash floods.

First, it is emphasized that lakhs of citizens who are traveling by road to take Dashain tika or return to their destination should be effectively informed about adverse weather conditions. Secondly, citizens are urged to stay safe and inform others by following the mandatory notices issued by the government and related agencies.

Thirdly, it is suggested to take an immediate initiative through the local level and administration to relocate the residents of declared or potential risk areas of floods to safe places for a few days. Fourthly, it is mentioned that the mountain road routes which are expected to be affected by heavy rain should be closed for a certain period.

Fifth, it has been emphasized that the local administration, government, party and volunteers should facilitate to reduce the suffering of travelers and locals when the road is blocked. Sixth, it is suggested to play an effective role in the coordination of the three levels of government by keeping the means, resources and team ready to deal with the disaster. Seventh, an appeal has been made to face the challenge in a united way, keeping aside other actions in potential risk areas.
