Parties 'ready' to go to polls

What you should know

After the dissolution of the House of Representatives, the parties in the internal discussion have said that they are ready to go for the mandate if there is a fair, free and fearless environment. They have also emphasized that elections should be held at the announced time. But the party has yet to decide on this matter.

Eight parties, including Congress, UML, Maoist, Janata Samajwadi, and Democratic Samajwadi, have recently stood together on the issue of dissolution of the House of Representatives. They have been calling the dissolution of parliament against the constitution.

After being appointed as the Prime Minister of the interim government on Friday, Sushila Karki recommended the dissolution of Parliament and the date of elections. Accordingly, the House of Representatives election has been scheduled for February 21.

Congress leader Arjun Narasimha KC said that parties with history should be ready to strengthen democracy and the supremacy of the people by going to the elections. The first task of the interim government is to create a credible environment for holding elections within six months. The parties should participate in the elections and return the supremacy of the Nepali people," he said. "If there is a fair election, the parties will participate. They test their mandate.'

KC says that parties including the Congress have no choice but to go to the people by apologizing for their mistakes in the past. Parties should not be afraid to go to the people. The constitution can be moved on the right path through elections," he said. "Parties should insist on elections. Only periodical elections can strengthen democracy.

leader KC said that the challenge of protecting democracy and constitutionalism has come now. He suggested Prime Minister Karki to work for the defense of the constitution and democracy.

The UMA led by the outgoing government is also ready to go to the elections, but it is doubtful that the elections will be fair. The conclusion of the UML is that the dissolution of the House of Representatives is contrary to the precedent of the Supreme Court.

UML Deputy Secretary General Pradeep Gyawali said that although elections are inevitable for the protection of the constitution and democracy, there is doubt that the interim government will create an environment for fair elections. If there is an election situation, the parties will participate. A lot of things are determined by the election," he said. "There is a doubt whether the country will go to the state of the election or not. Elections have no meaning if voters are not fearless. Is it possible for the parties to fearlessly participate in the elections or not?

He said that the interim government should focus on conducting fair and free elections when all the structures of the state have been destroyed.

UML Secretary Gokarn Bista said that the parties should pressurize to hold the election at the appointed time . "The government should also be able to create a comfortable environment for parties to participate," he said.

Senior Vice President of Maoist Narayankaji Shrestha said that the main issue now is to complete the general election on the declared date. "All our attention should be on conducting elections on time." There should be full emphasis on going to the elections,' he said, 'only in this way can the constitution and democracy be protected.' "There is no reason not to participate because the President has announced the election based on Article 61 of the Constitution," he added, "this is the right way today." The party is clear on this.'

He said that only if those who suppressed the Gen-G movement on August 23 and destroyed structures of national importance, including the Singh Darbar, Shitalanivas, the Supreme Court, the Parliament Building, as well as professional and private structures, the environment for the election will be created.

Maoist Deputy General Secretary Janardan Sharma mentioned that it is positive that the President announced the election based on the constitution and said that it should be certain that the election will be held. "There is no need to hold elections to protect the constitution," he said.

National Independent Party General Minister Kavindra Burlakoti said that it is inevitable that the interim government should hold the election of the House of Representatives within 6 months while maintaining the permanent nature and dynamics of the National Assembly. "Successful completion of scheduled general elections and peaceful transfer of power." There should be an environment where democratic rights can be fully enjoyed," he said. "The government should take strict measures against extreme corruption and impunity and proceed with reconstruction and economic reforms. Strong international relations and speedy development are also expected from this interim government.'' Burlakoti says that RSVP will always play a supportive role in promoting the overall national interest, unity and harmony.

Integrated Samajwadi has said that even though a decision has not been made about participating in the election, there can be no parties in opposition to the election. "First, it should be certain that the election will be held." There should be an environment that is fair, independent and trustworthy. If this assurance is given, it does not mean that our party will not go to the elections," said Veduram Bhusal, a senior leader of United Samajwadi Party. "Major parties discuss the election issues and come to a conclusion." Mentioning that his party supported Prime Minister Karki, he mentioned that the main focus of the government should be on conducting elections. Our party will participate in the election. We have supported Sushila Karki due to special circumstances. "We are not thinking of not participating in the elections," he said. He also mentioned that it is the responsibility of the parties to protect democracy and the constitution.
