Congress General Minister Gagan Thapa has said that by deciding to shut down social media, the government has taken the opposite path. He has also demanded to reconsider the decision of the government.

"The Supreme Court has asked for legal arrangements to be made to evaluate, monitor, make responsible, and discourage misuse of unwanted content published/broadcast on social media," Thapa wrote on social media, "referring to this, it is not to close down social media based on guidelines, but to make the necessary laws quickly." The law related to social media is under consideration in the National Assembly, let's work on it quickly and make a suitable law.

Thapa has also urged to show caution in making laws related to social media safe, prevent abuse and regulate it.

'Today, social media has become an important platform for citizens to enjoy their freedom of expression, participate in public debates and hold the government accountable. Social relations, entrepreneurship, digital economy are connected with various topics and the daily life of common people," he said, adding that any ban on the network will narrow the freedom of expression and the right to information. The issue of shutting down social networks is also linked to cyber risks. We should think about this matter in a balanced and prudent manner.'
