RPP chief whip Gyan Bahadur Shahi has demanded to ensure the market for Jumla's apples. Speaking at the meeting of the House of Representatives on Wednesday, Shahi demanded a 2-month ban on the import of foreign apples.
He demanded to ensure the market for domestic apples due to the addition of various pesticides to foreign apples, causing health problems and domestic apples not fetching reasonable prices. All MPs and Parliament Secretariat staff were also requested by Shahi to buy apples from Jumla. MP Shahi also drew the attention of Home Minister Ramesh Ukhtar saying that the road police were harassing him in the name of checking when he brought apples to the capital.
Jumla's apples have come to the market. All honorable people should buy it. Only now are foreign apples coming. It has made it difficult to market our Jumla apples. Last month alone, one and a half billion apples were imported. Do not bring it here without checking its quarantine. Stop the import of foreign apples for a month or two. If that happens, Jumla's apples will get the market and Kisa will get the money," he said.
He insists that the government should import foreign apples only after checking the quality.
