UML leader Vishal Bhattarai has said that former President Bidya Devi Bhandari has been kept as a respected leader of the country by deciding not to return to UML. In a press conference held in Diktel on Monday, Bhattarai said that a person who has reached the position of a respected president coming into active politics is not a challenge for the republic and it is not pleasant for the party either.

Bhattarai said that Vidya Bhandari will not return to the active politics of the party as the majority of the 248 central committee leaders decided that it is not suitable for the president to return to politics in the UML Central Committee meeting held from 5th to 7th July. Bhattarai claims that this decision is an honor not only for the party but also for Bhandari.

'It was decided that a person who has reached the position of the honorable president who is a symbol of the republic should not come into active politics as a matter of policy,' Bhattarai said, 'It is a decision to make Vidya Bhandari the leader of the country not only of UML, it is also an honor for him.' "Even in the district committee, there was a discussion about what would happen if Vidya Bhandari was brought into politics, it was also raised in the lower committee," said Bhattarai, "respecting the minority, we will take the matter up to the center."
