Home Minister Ramesh Akhtar has asked not to suspect that bad things will come in the law. Speaking to the media after the meeting of the Bills Committee under the Council of Ministers held at Singh Darbar on Tuesday, he said that the Bills Committee has proposed amendments to five bills namely the Criminal Code, the Criminal Code, the Civil Code, the Civil Code and the law on sentencing.
He said that there is a need to further discuss the amendment provisions related to polygamy, the provisions regarding the age of marriage, the provisions regarding advance bail and the provisions related to pardon, postponement or change of punishment by the President of Nepal on the recommendation of the Government of Nepal.
The meeting said that it was necessary to further discuss the issues related to polygamy, age of marriage, anticipatory bail and postponement/amnesty of imprisonment-fines, so it was decided to proceed by forming a sub-committee within the Bill Committee. The sub-committee will discuss and amend the bill after consulting with the concerned ministry.
The Home Minister said, 'We have formed a sub-committee in the Bill Committee as more discussions and amendments are needed on the issues related to polygamy, age of marriage, anticipatory bail and suspension of imprisonment-fines-amnesty changes. It will make necessary amendments in the presence of the concerned Ministry, Ministry of Law, Law Commission and Attorney General. The bill committee will address the concerns expressed among the citizens. That is why I urge you not to suspect that bad things will happen in the law.'
Home Minister Author made it clear that the public's interest in the law related to polygamy will be addressed and amended by the bill committee.
